Square Enix announced Final Fantasy VII G-Bike at this year’s E3 to the surprise of many fans across the globe. Described as “thrill of the chase” title for smartphones, G-Bike looks something like a modern re-imagining of the Gold Saucer mini-game of the same name.
It’s not the first time a Final Fantasy VII mini-game has been split into its own mobile title. Final Fantasy VII Snowboarding made its debut in 2005 and largely resembled its PlayStation counterpart. Other mobile titles in the Compilation have come to include Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII and Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII -Lost Episode-.
With the past in mind it doesn’t seem to be too much of a shock that the Compilation returns to our phones — but why now?
In the newest issue of Famitsu, the G-Bike staff including executive producer Yoshinori Kitase chat about… possibilities. Square Enix is collaborating with CyberConnect2 to create G-Bike, and president Hiroshi Matsuyama was present. Tetsuya Nomura, also working on the game and suggested the partnership, is a fan of the company’s work — particularly in the field of action. It seems that if G-Bike is successful Square Enix will be open to more games of its nature — “Super Dunk” or the submarine mini-game were thrown out as examples, not confirmations.
It’s hard talking about Final Fantasy VII without bringing up the “r-word”, and there’s no one at Square Enix that’s answered more than Yoshinori Kitase. Famitsu asked him if G-Bike is the start of something potentially much bigger:

Famitsu: Is this a starting point for FFVII titles here after? Is there a possibility of remake of the original FFVII?
Kitase: “I wonder… (Laughs) Maybe if Matsuyama is in charge of the criterion and the groundwork is finished, would we be fully prepared to remake it? (Laughs) Granting the quality line and fans’ excitement, I think comparatively it hangs on this title. I have my hopes up.”
Matsuyama: “…Well, I’d be happy to! (Big laughter)”
Kitase may only be getting a joke out of Matsuyama in the form of flattery, but it still leaves us curious.
Could G-Bike be the first of a smartphone line-up of Final Fantasy VII-themed games to prime new and old fans alike for an actual, factual remake?

Final Fantasy VIII
In news that has no doubt pleased many, Square Enix has finally announced that they will release Final Fantasy VIII on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch worldwide in 2019 while also re-releasing it on PC in celebration of the game's 20th anniversary.
It will be titled Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, although the actual remastering appears to be similar to what Final Fantasy IX received in 2016 with the character models in particular receiving work.
It will be available on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Nintendo eShop and Steam worldwide.

Final Fantsy XIII Trilogy
The trilogy of the Final Fantasy 13 games have never looked so crisp, clear, and HD, thanks to a remaster of the three on the Xbox One.
The Final Fantasy 13 remaster trilogy is available through all of the original Xbox 360 discs, as the three games are now backwards compatible with the Xbox One line of systems.
